Public Consultation on 'Draft Interim Standards for New Directions, Services and Supports for Adults with Disabilities'

The HSE is publishing “Draft Interim Standards for New Directions, Services and Supports for Adults with Disabilities” for public consultation for a period of 6 weeks from 8th September to 17th October 2014.

These Draft Interim Standards arise from recommendations in “New Directions, the review of HSE Day Services and Implementation Plan”, published in 2012. New Directions sets out twelve supports that should be available to people using ‘day services’. It proposes that ‘day services’ should take the form of individualised outcome-focussed supports to allow adults using those services live a life of their choosing in accordance with their own wishes, needs and aspirations.

The National Disability Authority has supported the HSE in the development of these Draft Interim Standards through its membership of the National Implementation Group for New Directions. Consultations were held with people who use current Adult Day Services as part of the development of these Draft Interim Standards. An Easy to Read Guide to the Draft Interim Standards for New Directions has been prepared for this public consultation. The Easy to Read Guide is also available in four separate parts, formatted for use in facilitated consultation sessions.
