The National Disability Authority’s principal statutory function is to provide information and to advise on disability policy and practice. Our policy advice spans the range of areas covered in the National Disability Strategy and in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including disability services and supports, employment, transport, social welfare, housing, health, the justice system, independent living and social inclusion. Our policy advice is independent and impartial and is underpinned by research evidence and by consultation with people with disabilities and their organisations on lived experience.
We provide information to the public service through our publications and our website, through engagement with Ministers and officials, through seminars and workshops, and through participation on relevant working groups.
Our policy advice is directed to Ministers and officials in Government Departments and the public service. We engage constructively with relevant officials to support the development and implementation of policy. We provide policy advice through ongoing engagement, through participation on relevant working groups, and through formal policy advice papers.
