NDA Submission to Department of Health - Advance Healthcare Directive 2014

The National Disability Authority (NDA) welcomes publication of the draft General Scheme of Legislative Provisions to provide for the Making of Advance Care Directives. The Scheme reflects the principles of autonomy and self-determination contained in the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Bill 2013 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The NDA is of the view that Advance Care Directives are important instruments for a person’s healthcare/mental healthcare planning, recovery and treatment, including end-of-life treatment.
