2017 Report on Compliance with Part 5 of the Disability Act on the Employment of People with Disabilities in the Public Sector
This is the eleventh annual report by the National Disability Authority (NDA) to the Minister on employment of people with disabilities in the public sector. The NDA has a statutory role in monitoring employment of people with disabilities in the public sector, arising from Part 5 of the Disability Act 2005.
At the end of 2017, public bodies reported that 3.5% of employees employed in the public sector are people with disabilities. The number and percentage of public bodies achieving the 3% continues to increase. In 2016, 169 (77.5%) public bodies out of 218 achieved the 3% target. In 2017, 184 (84.4%) public bodies out of 218 achieved or exceeded the 3% target. This is an increase of 6.9% from 2016.
We note that some public bodies have achieved or exceeded the 3% target for the first time in 2017. The NDA will continue to work with the public sector to build its capacity in the coming year to ensure this trend continues.
