NDA Submission on Environmental Assessment Scoping Report for Metrolink

July 2019

In July 2019, the National Disability Authority (NDA) made a submission to the Environmental Assessment Scoping Report for the proposed Metrolink project which is being managed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TIL) on behalf of the National Transport Authority (NTA). The objective of this proposed project is to provide a high capacity, high frequency rail line running  from Swords to Charlemont, linking Dublin airport, Irish Rail, DART, Dublin Bus and Luas services, thereby creating fully integrated public transport in the Greater Dublin area. In this submission, the NDA advised TIL that a universal design approach needed to be adopted at the onset ,to ensure that this project developed and delivered an integrated universally designer public transport service that is easy to access, easy to understand  and easy to use for everyone, regardless of age, size, ability or disability.  One of the key elements of this approach, is that TIL should consult with a wide range of users, including persons with disabilities and older people, at each step of this proposed project to ensure that the final service is universally designed.
