Research with Children with Disabilities
Guidelines and Checklist for Good Practice
Recent years has seen an expansion in research on the lives of our children and young people, including those with disabilities. It is vital that quality in such research be ensured. So, in accordance with its statutory role in relation to disability research, the NDA funded the Children’s Research Centre in Trinity College to develop a set of guidelines for good practice in researching with children with disabilities, along with a practical checklist for researchers and a comprehensive discussion paper on issues arising. These documents were drawn up through consideration of best national and international practice alongside a process of consultation, in particular consultation with organizations of people with disabilities and with those involved in children’s research and policy development. They are designed to be used by those involved in funding, conducting, or managing research which includes children with disabilities.
