Guidelines for Public Transport Operators

September 2005

These Guidelines represent the first step in assisting and supporting bus, rail and light rail operators in Ireland in making their services more accessible to passengers with disabilities.

The Guidelines are intended to help public transport operators provide a good, comprehensive and readily usable service to people with disabilities. They cover information provision, infrastructure and buildings, vehicle design, customer relations, disability awareness training and procedures for disruption and emergencies.

In addition, the Guidelines explain the barriers to travel faced by passengers with disabilities, and outline the current Irish legal and regulatory position.
