To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and as part of the annual Purple Lights campaign on 3 December, we light up the NDA building purple.
We have participated in the Purple Lights campaign for a number of years, which sees Government buildings - local and national - major companies, civic and educational institutions turning purple to celebrate the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) each year.
Proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3, the observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
The theme for the IDPD in 2023 is “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) for, with and by persons with disabilities”.
Our policy work in areas such as education, employment, transport, independent living and access to justice align closely with Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8, 9, 11 and 16. More generally, the work of the NDA is reflected in the spirit and objective of Sustainable Development Goal 10.
