Disability Data

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) requires State Parties to acquire disability data and statistics that will facilitate UNCRPD implementation and its monitoring. It requires States to progressively ensure adequate data collection and disaggregation to ensure persons with disabilities are visible within statistics for evidence-based policymaking.

Under the National Disability Authority (NDA) Act 1999 we undertake, commission and collaborate in research projects and activities on issues relating to disability and assist in the development of statistical information appropriate for the planning, delivery and monitoring of programmes and services for persons with disabilities.

We use a number of data sources in our work including census data and other national household survey data. The main sources are linked on our Sources of Disability Data webpage.

We also collect primary data and where appropriate, we make these available for further research. Check out our NDA Databases.

We are committed to promoting the use and re-use of public sector information. Read our Open Data Statement for more information.
