On Tuesday, 25 February, the University of Galway and Trinity College Dublin will host a webinar to launch a research report entitled "Disability, Diversity and Identity in Ireland’s Local and European Elections 2024". The report was funded by the NDA under its Research Promotion Scheme.
This research focuses on the experiences of disabled candidates who identified as holding intersecting identities and stood in the 2024 local and European elections.
The event will be chaired by Liam Herrick, Chief Commissioner, IHREC, and Art O’Leary, Chief Executive, Electoral Commission will act as Rapporteur. Dr. Aoife Price, Dr. Vivian Rath, and Prof. Eilionóir Flynn, who conducted the research, will also offer their recommendations for future action to increase the number and diversity of disabled candidates standing for election in Ireland. Other confirmed speakers include Dr. Carly Cheevers (NDA), Colette O’Regan (LGBT Ireland), Zoe O’Reilly (National Traveller Women’s Forum) and Amy Hassett (Disabled Women Ireland).
