NDA Submission to the Irish Probation Service Statement of Strategy 2021-2023

The NDA included the following in its submission:

UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities- the NDA highlighted the Articles within the Convention most relevant to the work of the Irish Probation Service, including Articles 13, 5, 7, 9, 12 and 19.

The NDA drew attention to the actions relevant to the work of the Irish Probation Service under the National Disability Inclusion Strategy, including Action 18B, which commits responsible bodies to integrating a focus on the needs of people with disabilities in initiatives to enhance access to justice.

It also highlighted actions in respect of the participation of persons with disabilities, the Web Accessibility Directive and disability awareness training.

The NDA welcomed the Irish Probation Service’s proactive approach to collaboration with other bodies in the Irish justice system The NDA advised the continued development of data collection and dissemination plans. The NDA thanked the Irish Probation Service for its involvement in the NDA’s Annual Conference in October 2020.
