Disability Assessments

There is an international and national interest in reforming disability assessment approaches to be more in line with a social model and human-rights understanding of disability as embodied in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Disability assessments play a key role in determining who is, and is not, eligible for a broad range of public services and schemes for people with disabilities. However, the concepts and practices that underpin disability assessments are complex and contested.

We are conducting a scoping review that explores international and Irish trends and approaches to disability assessments, with a particular focus on informing potential reforms in the Irish context.
