This session will present findings from two newly published literature reviews commissioned by the Department for Children, Disability and Equality as part of Action 81 of the Autism Innovation Strategy.

Autistic life expectancy and ageing

The review summarises the latest evidence about the health of ageing autistic people and patterns of life expectancy for the autistic community. The findings will be presented by Dr Louise Lynch and Dr Darren McCausland from the Trinity Centre for Ageing and the Life course in intellectual disability, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin.

Dr Lynch is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow on the intellectual disability supplement of the Irish longitudinal study on ageing (IDS-TILDA). Dr McCausland leads Social and Community Research at the centre and has been involved with IDS-TILDA since 2012. He also works with Stewarts Care.

The healthcare experiences of Autistic LGBTQIA+ people

The review highlights barriers, inequalities, and opportunities to create more equitable healthcare.

The findings will be presented by Mx Ryan Biskupović-Goulding. Mx Biskupović-Goulding is a Lecturer, PhD candidate and registered mental health nurse based at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork.
