On 25 June, a number of NDA colleagues appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Disability Matters to discuss ‘Progressing the delivery of disability policy and services’.
The Joint Committee considers disability matters and issues affecting people with a disability in Ireland, including those under the ambit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Our discussion with the Committee was wide-ranging, focusing on our review of the Children's Disability Network Team (CDNT) service model, the forthcoming National Disability Strategy and the Optional Protocol to the UNCRPD. Other topics discussed including the challenges faced by disabled people in the employment sphere, the work of our Centre for Excellence in Universal Design in promoting Universal Design and initiatives to accelerate the decongregation process.
A copy of our opening statement, delivered by our Director, Dr Aideen Hartney, is available on our Oireachtas submissions and statements webpage.
