This morning, the NDA’s Director, Dr Aideen Hartney, Head of Policy, Research and Public Affairs, Dr Rosalyn Tamming, and the Chief Officer of our Centre for Excellence in Universal Design, Dr Gerald Craddock, appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Disability Matters. The Committee met to discuss inclusive education for people with disabilities.

The discussion touched on a range of areas and issues, including Ireland’s progress in meeting the requirements of Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which enshrines the right to inclusive education. Other topics covered included Universal Design in Education, assistive technology provision and use in schools, the in-school therapy model and transition planning.

A copy of our opening statement, delivered by our Director, is available on our Oireachtas submissions and statements webpage.
