Schools across the country have been receiving competition packs containing cross-curricular learning and teaching materials for the Someone Like Me Art Awards. This year’s All Together theme encourages pupils to share their ideas about friendship, kindness, accessibility and how everyone can feel included in school and community life.
Encouraging primary school principals, teachers and pupils to take part in this year’s competition as a way of strengthening understanding and belonging in communities, our Director, Dr Aideen Hartney said:
“The Someone Like Me Art Awards give schools a positive, practical way to start meaningful conversations about disability, difference and belonging.”
Reflecting wider developments, this year’s Art Awards have evolved in focus. The Awards are seeking to move conversations beyond awareness-raising to deeper understanding of disabled people and their lives.
The competition, which offers a range of prizes up to the value of €1,000, is open to all primary school, special school, and home-schooled pupils in Ireland, from junior infants to sixth class. Entries are welcome from individual pupils, a class or a whole school as a combined effort.
There will be a junior and senior category winner in every county. Six national finalists will be selected from which one overall national winner will be chosen.
Teacher resources, interactive content, and full competition details can be found on the brand new Someone Like Me Art Awards website. Launched in August, the new website introduces a range of accessibility and user journey improvements.
The final deadline for entries is 10 December 2026.
