Good Practice
The National Disability Authority has statutory functions in relation to:
- Assisting the development of standards
- Producing codes of practice
- Monitoring implementation of standards and codes of practice
- Recognising the achievement of good standards and quality, including through the provision of a disability equality awards system
The NDA have built up a wealth of resources to support progress in achieving the inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream society. Our guidelines promote good practice, which in many cases extends beyond minimum legislative requirements.
We have produced two approved Codes of Practice under the Disability Act 2005:
- Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information provided by Public Bodies
- Code of Practice on Accessible Heritage Sites
While much of our work is focused on disability, our mandate to promote excellence in universal design also takes us beyond disability to the impact of design on all members of society regardless of anyone's age, size, ability or disability.
