The NDA has published Guidance to Support Non-Speaking and Minimally Speaking People to Access Public Services.
The aim of the guidance is to support autistic people and other users of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to access mainstream public services within their community.
This work was carried out as part of Action 82 of the government’s Autism Innovation Strategy. The guidance was informed by a review of the literature, and by engagement with two advisory groups; one for those with lived experience of using AAC and one for those individuals supporting AAC users in a personal or professional capacity.
The NDA has also published a one page summary of the guidance, which contains tips and reminders with regard to AAC etiquette.
