The NDA has published guidance to support non-speaking and minimally speaking people to access public services. This guidance was developed as part of Action 82 of the Autism Innovation Strategy. The NDA has also published a literature review which informed the development of the guidance.

The purpose of this guidance is to raise awareness around the needs of autistic people and others with disabilities who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This includes information on the different types of AAC and best practice for frontline service providers to engage with these individuals in a respectful way. The NDA engaged with two advisory groups to develop this guidance; one for autistic or disabled people who use AAC and one for individuals who support them.
