Colleagues in our Centre for Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD) were in attendance at the BIG Idea Showcase 2025 at the Autodesk HQ on Wednesday 14 May 2025. CEUD have collaborated with the Big Idea on a number of projects since 2021. These projects have resulted in Big Idea refining their educational tools and resources, making them more accessible and also integrating Universal Design into the Big Idea programme.
This year CEUD continued their collaboration with the Big Idea by sponsoring the Universal Design School of the Year award. The award recognises the school that promoted a UD Approach to their students and whose students have submitted projects that demonstrate good practice in UD or who have applied a UD Approach to their design process.
The winner of this year’s award was Castletroy College from Limerick. Congratulations to Castletroy College!
Minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor spoke at the event about how inspirational the young people and how they will be generation to go on to solve some of challenges that we now face in the world. Dr. Norah Patten also spoke at the event, detailing her journey to becoming Ireland’s first astronaut. She told the students to shoot for the stars and don’t be afraid of failing, just keep moving.
