The National Office for Community Safety (NOCS) ran a recent bilateral engagement and the NDA provided views on the issues paper which will support the development of the first ever National Strategy for Improving Community Safety. The NDA advised the importance of engagement with disabled people and their representative organisations at the local level in identifying and responding to issues relating to community safety. The NDA further underscored that accessibility should be a core consideration for all public meetings concerning community safety, that disabled people should be represented on each Local Community Safety Partnership and that each local community safety plan consider the specific safety needs of disabled people in their own local community. The NDA also suggested that the accessibility of local communities could be considered as an indicator of community safety.
