Submission to An Garda Síochána to inform its Community Policing Policy

The NDA’s submission highlighted:

• the importance of proactive efforts by Gardaí to build relationships, awareness and positive interactions with disabled people, as well as local DPOs, disability organisations and service providers
• that people with different disabilities may experience different and specific challenges when engaging with Garda community officers
• learnings from several positive initiatives to improve community safety for disabled people which involve extensive Garda and community partnership, including the CAST pilot in Limerick (for people experiencing a mental health crisis) and the ‘Make Way Day’ initiative.
