Submission to the Judicial Appointments Commission to inform its Diversity Statement Consultation

The NDA’s submission highlighted: 

• the lack of diversity within the judiciary, including the underrepresentation of people from minority groups 
• the challenges facing disabled judges when participating in judicial processes and navigating court environments and 
• the need for a greater focus on the provision of reasonable accommodation measures to judicial candidates with disabilities. 

The NDA’s submission also provided advice on disability disaggregated data, possible measures to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the legal profession, and good practices from the UK which have enhanced judicial diversity, including targeted outreach programmes and judicial work shadowing schemes.
