The National Disability Authority’s (NDA) 2024 annual conference took place on Thursday, 24 October 2024, at the AVIVA Stadium, Dublin. The conference examined the implementation of Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in Ireland. Article 30 UNCRPD recognises the right of people with disabilities to participate in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport.

Almost 150 people attended the event in-person, with well over 100 participants joining online. The conference featured a range of addresses and panel discussions, with issues discussed including the extent to which Article 30 UNCRPD is being realised in Ireland; barriers faced by disabled people regarding participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport; potential solutions to these challenges; and good practices in Ireland and other countries.

In line with the theme of Article 30 UNCRPD, the event also featured a:

  • performance from Vocal Jazz Artist and Composer, Emilie Conway
  • poetry recital from Jessica Keegan, Author of ‘My Angels and Demons Through Poetry’
  • arts exhibition entitled ‘Connecting Artists Collective’ from the Connections Arts Centre
  • screening of ‘Diversity Hire', a spoken word performance by FELISPEAKS.
