The Disability Act 2005 (“the Act”) places a statutory obligation on a public body to make their public services accessible to persons with disabilities. Public bodies have a legal duty to ensure their information, goods and services are accessible to persons with disabilities as far as practicable.
Section 26 states that public bodies are required to ensure that their services are accessible for persons with disabilities by providing integrated access to mainstream services where practicable and appropriate.
The first monitoring activity under this Code examined Departments and public bodies against section 26(2) of the Act which has to do with the appointment of an Access Officer and promotion of details of same.
